A thoroughly beautiful book。 I love the virtues espoused in this book。

This is a easy read for young children and is great message for children to remember as they grow up and figuring out who they are。 It goes on to say to be brave, try new things, be kind, and listen to others。 It teaches children to love who you are and be proud to show others who you are。 It also teaches how to be kind to others。 This book is short and sweet and has beautiful illustrations。 After reading it, I felt uplifted and happy to be me。

I love the usage of “rainbow” colors in this book, and the first page does a great job of drawing the reader in。 The illustrations look like they’re done using digital tools and water color。 The words are put on the page in whimsical ways and I simply LOVE the illustrations。 This book is full of words of encouragement for a child’s life。 Each set of pages says “Be _____” and then the preceding page is a description as to how。 My favorite page is the one that says “Be Kind。 Be Understanding” beca I love the usage of “rainbow” colors in this book, and the first page does a great job of drawing the reader in。 The illustrations look like they’re done using digital tools and water color。 The words are put on the page in whimsical ways and I simply LOVE the illustrations。 This book is full of words of encouragement for a child’s life。 Each set of pages says “Be _____” and then the preceding page is a description as to how。 My favorite page is the one that says “Be Kind。 Be Understanding” because of the beautiful contrasting water colors on the page。 I would love to have this book in my classroom of K-1st graders。 5 stars because the words and illustrations are phenomenal。 。。。more

We read this one at least two or three times。 This book sends a positive message reinforcing embracing your unique individuality, while at the same time seeking traits such as being adventurous, brave, persistent, kind, connected, understanding, etc。

Great graduation gift idea!

Angie

An affirmation filled book about the importance of being you - being adventurous, being ok being alone, being ok asking for help, etc。 This very much fits in with Reynolds' other books。 Would be great for a graduation or birthday gift。 An affirmation filled book about the importance of being you - being adventurous, being ok being alone, being ok asking for help, etc。 This very much fits in with Reynolds' other books。 Would be great for a graduation or birthday gift。 。。。more

I love to read Peter H。 Reynolds´s books to my middle school students, even when they stared at me weirdly。

I would have the children do self portraits pictures。 I really love this book because it is so positive。 It teaches children to surround themselves with positive people。 We can also talk about things that make them different from their friends。 We can measure height, and color of their shirt。

Jen

Such a sweet story with a wonderful message。

The growth-mindset premise is good, but I feel some of the passages don't explain really well what exactly "being you" means。 For example, the passage that reads "Be ready。。。 。。。to take that next step toward being an AMAZING human being。" What does that mean? Amazing how? Is an amazing person kind? Is an amazing person highly accomplished? Is an amazing person authentic? Does the author want the reader to define what amazing would be for them? I think I would have liked more detail in some places。 I also think it's really important when telling children to "be you" to also tell them to be accepting of things in themselves that are not particularly notable。 This book puts a large emphasis on trying new things and standing out and being "amazing", but some kids are more authentic not doing those things。 I think that is okay too, but it seems those types of children might not find a home in this book。 Still, it's a decent read。 I just would have liked to see a little more detail and explanation of broad statements。 。。。more

Peter H。 Reynolds has done it again!! Oh my lord!! This book is simply precise! I couldn't rave enough on this book and others by Reynolds。 All of them have a strikingly confident message that is worth sharing with our littles, but also super duper fun to read as you dive deep into the colorful and playful pages he as created for the reader。 I think this book is good for teaching kiddos its ok to be yourself and no one else! Good reminders for kids and adults。 Great book to give to a child you love。

Each page has an inspiring message。 A great book to revisit from time to time to remind kids about their own individuality and uniqueness。

This is a nice book。。。 with encouraging words for the kids who read it。 Helping them want to be themselves, be persistent, be different。

The perfect book for transition years。 A great book for graduates。 I love the simple text。 With a group of kids you could spend hours talking about this book!!

This book will not be understood by the typical picture book audience。 Adults will need to lead conversations about the various exhortations to be ____ (adventurous, connected, persistent, different, etc。), and how this relates to being YOU。 It could make a good send off or graduation book at the end of the school year。 It might also be useful for tone-setting discussions at the beginning of the year。 How does one live in community with others while exhibiting all the attributes the book recomme This book will not be understood by the typical picture book audience。 Adults will need to lead conversations about the various exhortations to be ____ (adventurous, connected, persistent, different, etc。), and how this relates to being YOU。 It could make a good send off or graduation book at the end of the school year。 It might also be useful for tone-setting discussions at the beginning of the year。 How does one live in community with others while exhibiting all the attributes the book recommends? 。。。more

Lovely art, and some of the pages did spark some conversations in storytime。 But I really like picture books to have an actual story。 This one is like most of the Todd Parr books: hard to read out loud because it's just sort of a bunch of words。 Lovely art, and some of the pages did spark some conversations in storytime。 But I really like picture books to have an actual story。 This one is like most of the Todd Parr books: hard to read out loud because it's just sort of a bunch of words。 。。。more

Good colorful illustrations and message, but this book is not clear in its audience。 This book is probably better for kids aged 6 and up to read one on one with an adult because of all the vocabulary words。 I just felt that between the deep message and vocabulary words this book was intended for a little bit older age group that might not pick up a picture book on their own。

Patti

This is a great message for my students and all the children (regardless of age)。

A nice update on the "be yourself" message。 There are a lot of positive picture books out there。 This one has Reynold's bright, quirky illustrations of kids from pensive to exuberant。- Be connected: Find kindred spirits。 Be with those who make you feel like the real you。- Be kind/Be understanding: Help those around you to be themselves。 Listen。 Then listen some more。 Learn more about who they are。- Be okay being alone: Take time to be on your own。 Hear your own thoughts -- your inner voice。 List A nice update on the "be yourself" message。 There are a lot of positive picture books out there。 This one has Reynold's bright, quirky illustrations of kids from pensive to exuberant。- Be connected: Find kindred spirits。 Be with those who make you feel like the real you。- Be kind/Be understanding: Help those around you to be themselves。 Listen。 Then listen some more。 Learn more about who they are。- Be okay being alone: Take time to be on your own。 Hear your own thoughts -- your inner voice。 Listen to your heart。 。。。more

The style and quality message you expect from Reynolds shines through, once again here。Every child should hear this book read to them, like once a week。。。especially now。

This books makes the most sense and is the most inclusive of all the You Matter and Your Important themed books I have read。 But this and make sure to read it aloud。 Put it in your classroom libraries。
